Acer Expands it’s digital projector line with the VP110X

Marc McCormick Senior Marketing Manager Acer Communications & Multimedia [email protected] Immediate Release
ACER EXPANDS IT’S DIGITAL PROJECTOR LINE WITH THE VP110X
New Projector Offers Bright Images and Enhanced Features SAN JOSE, CA—Acer Communications & Multimedia America (CMA) extends its line of high-performance multimedia display products with the new Acer VP110X digital projector. Designed for business presentations, the versatile Acer VP110X can also be used for educational purposes and home entertainment. With its sleek design and numerous powerful and practical features, users will find the value of the Acer VP110X hard to resist. The VP110X model will be available in February, 2001 with an MSRP of $3,999. The VP110X model offers XGA (1024 x 768) in its native resolution, but can go up to SXGA (1280 x 1024) resolution with the ability of compression. The projector’s advanced intelligent scaling technology enables it to present sharper images. The Acer VP110X uses advanced LCD technology combined with 1200 ANSI Lumen lamp to deliver more brightness and accurate color reproduction than previous digital projector technologies. Pixelation is nearly undetectable and the distribution of light is smooth and consistent over the entire image area. The Acer VP110X also uses a high-resolution lens that lets users focus on a wider range than traditional projectors while still delivering a sharp image, even at the edges of the image area. The lens is coated with a Multi-Layer Anti-Reflection Coating that minimizes reflection loss in higher-contrast images. The projection lenses are optical grade glass, not acrylic or plastic, ensuring the best possible quality. The Acer VP110X lamp uses UHP Crystalline Glass. This 150W lamp produces consistent brightness levels throughout the entire image area and lasts on an average up to 2000 hours. The average 2000 hour lamp life significantly lowers the cost of operation for this unit and provides a bright 1200 ANSI Lumen output. With the On-Screen Display (OSD), users may also digitally correct any trapezoidal picture distortion with the PalmPro’s keystone correction feature. The “Handy Zoom,” developed by Acer, makes size adjustment easy and is particularly useful in rooms where electrical outlets are placed at an awkward distance from the screen area. The Acer Intelligent Scan (i-scan) System offers plug-and-play compatibility with almost all computer output signals, eliminating the need for manual resets or frequent adjustments during each set-up. The OSD also allows users to choose from seven different languages (English, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, and Dutch) to adjust and control the main menu. The power supply automatically switches between 100-120 and 200-240 AC, 50/60Hz capabilities. Video compatibility includes full PAL, SECAM and NTSC standards. These features are specifically designed for the use of international business travelers. The wireless remote control allows users to control function keys on the projector and to emulate mouse functions when the projector is connected to a computer. An additional laser pointer function is built in the remote control for the added convenience of fingertip-highlighting during presentations. The i-zoom feature can magnify pictures by more than 32 times. This digital zoom feature allows the operator to focus on key points or crucial information during a presentation. The projector is also capable of capturing and freezing images from all AV sources, enabling presenters to easily control the pace of the presentation. Acer Communications & Multimedia Inc. is one of the world’s leading computer peripheral manufacturers and suppliers with revenues of over $1.5 billion in 1999. Headquartered in San Jose, California, Acer Communications & Multimedia America is a subsidiary of the Acer Group, the third largest PC manufacturer in the world with over 20 years of experience in the computer industry. CMA products are sold throughout North America and include monitors, scanners, projectors, optical storage devices and keyboards. Numerous Acer CMA products have been ranked among the top five in the world.

New “Seamless Link” technology eliminates CD burning failure

Over-the-top technology that puts an end to buffer under run errors-

Seamless Link

Buffer under run errors have plagued CD-RW drives from the very beginning. This February, Acer Communications & Multimedia (Acer CM) announced "Seamless Link"- the most elegant solution to the bane of every CD burner's existence. This advanced technology allows a CD-RW drive to automatically monitor the recording status to prevent buffer under run from occurring.

The traditional solution for buffer under run was to enlarge the size of the buffer to allow it to accumulate more data. While this tactic helped reduce the frequency of under runs, once an error occurred, there was no way to save the address of the exact point where the under run had occurred, so the user had no choice but to toss out the now-useless disc and try burning another.

Acer CM's Seamless Link is a breakthrough that allows the CD-RW drive to store the RecEnd address, the point in the data to which the recording mechanism has progressed, and pause the recording before a buffer under run occurs. When the buffer is again full, a Seamless Link-enabled CD-RW drive locates the RecEnd address and resumes the recording process. The gap between the stop and restart point is closed, while managing the recording process precisely and transparently-eliminating under run errors while maintaining recording accuracy. Seamless Link is also built in the latest Acer CD-ReWriter-the CRW1208A.

Seamless Link works its magic by following these steps:

  1. Monitor the amount of buffered data during the recording process.
  2. Stop the recording process and store the RecEnd address if there is any problem that causes the amount of data in the buffer to fall below a certain level.
  3. Hold in a pause state and allow new data to fill the buffer memory.
  4. Scan from a point ahead of the actual RecEnd address and locate the exact RecEnd point.
  5. Re-start the recording process.
